TURSAANSYDAN

The tursaansydän (Finnish for "heart of Tursas" or ”heart of Walrus”) is an ancient symbol for protection against curse. All known swastikas in wood figurines made in Finland before 1700 are Tursaansydän -symbols.

The mytological meanings of the word ”Tursas” are a water devil (vesihiisi), a water holder, a gnome, an elf and even a giant.

Turso and Iki-Turso are also mentioned in the Kalevala, the National Epic of Finland.

 

SWASTIKA

Swastika is an ancient symbol that has been in place for over 3000 years and it has been used in many cultures around the world.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit word Swasti, which is derived from the words ”Su” (good, well) and ”Asti” (it is). The swastika symbol was considered positive at the begining of the last century in Western Countries and was used in postcards and lucky coins.

It still exists in many religions as a symbol of goodness and eternity.
